Finance Magnates reported last week that the cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase saw massive Bitcoin outflows amid price volatility in BTC. Approximately $1 billion worth of BTC left Coinbase within 24 hours.

The price of Bitcoin has surged nearly 90% in the last 12 weeks due to significant institutional demand for the world’s largest cryptocurrency.

“If we add all of the potential demand relative to the limited supply, we come up with incredible numbers over the long term. We have just begun. One trillion dollars is nothing compared to where this ultimately will be,” Cathie Wood, Founder and CEO of Ark Invest, said about BTC recently.

Institutional demand for Bitcoin is currently driving the price of BTC, but the latest dip in the supply of digital currency is making it difficult for organizations to accumulate the cryptocurrency. In addition to Bitcoin whales, crypto miners are not selling their BTC assets as the total amount of Bitcoin transferred from all crypto wallets of miners has dropped to the lowest level since December 2020.

Interest in non-fungible tokens ( NFTs ) has reached almost the same level as interest in ICOs in 2017, according to Google Trends data shared by Unfolded , a crypto analytics website. 

As the above graph shows, ICOs, or initial coin offerings, surged in popularity in the second half of 2017, alongside Bitcoin's  bull run to an all-time high price of just under $20,000. As Bitcoin’s price collapsed in early 2018, so too did interest in ICOs—as reflected by Google search volume. 

NFTs, cryptographically-unique tokens that can be used to represent media such as artwork and music, shot to prominence in 2020 and 2021 amid a series of high-profile digital art sales. Digital artist Beeple sold one NFT at auction for a record-breaking $69 million—making it the third most expensive artwork by a living artist—while celebrities and artists flocked to create their own NFTs. 

That rise in interest is mirrored in Google Trends search data for NFTs, which has visibly shot up and is almost a vertical line in 2021. 

An ICO is an initial coin offering—a type of crowdfunding that uses cryptocurrencies. During Bitcoin’s 2017 bull run, investors poured approximately $22 billion into ICOs ; many either failed to live up to their hype, or failed completely.

In addition, the US Securities and Exchange Commission cracked down on a number of ICOs , claiming that they had conducted unregistered securities sales. Since then, the mania for ICOs has cooled somewhat—and NFTs appear to have seized the limelight.

The critical support levels are $0.16 and $0.14; $0.20 and $0.22 represent the current resistance levels. If the price jumps again above $0.20, it would be a signal to trade Zilliqa (ZIL), and the next price target could be around $0.22.

On the other side, if the price falls below $0.16, it would be a firm “sell” signal, and we have the open way to $0.14 support.

All major cryptocurrencies are advancing this Wednesday, and this situation also supports Zilliqa’s price. Professional consulting firm PwC found that cryptocurrency mergers and acquisitions (M&A) hit a new high in 2020. It predicts this figure will be easily surpassed in 2021.

Professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) published a report on the cryptocurrency market earlier this week, noting that mergers and acquisitions in the crypto market have hit new highs.

First reported by Bloomberg, the report states that the amount of investment activity is likely to rise even further.

Furthermore, it claims that this will be supported by institutional investments. It noted that the average deal size rose from $19.2 million to $52.7 million. The value of mergers and acquisitions more than doubled to $1.1 billion between 2019 and 2020.

Henri Arslanian, PwC global crypto leader, said that this trend would likely continue in 2021. He noted that this year is “already on track to significantly surpass [2020] from every single metric.”

Perhaps more interestingly, PwC remarks that institutional cryptocurrency investments will continue to pour in. This would help stabilize the market and, in turn, draw in more retail investors.

Such events and developments are lending some credence to the price targets put forward by firms like JPMorgan Chase and Citibank. The former is eyeing $146,000, while the latter thinks that $318,000 is realistic by 2023.

PwC published a report in October 2020 stating that blockchain technology could boost the global GDP by $1.76 trillion by 2030.

The likes of Microstrategy, Tesla, and Square investing billions into Bitcoin has helped drive cryptocurrency assets forward. According to on-chain data analytics provider, Glassnode, Ethereum’s Hash Rate just reached an all-time high (ATH) of 532,411,759,741,113. As a Proof-of-Work (PoW) network, the hashrate is a measure of the processing power of the Ethereum blockchain. The hashrate specifically helps determines the number of times the network can attempt to complete a difficult mathematical puzzle every second, in order to add blocks of verified transactions to the blockchain.

Implications of the Increasing Hashrate on ETH Price

The global cryptocurrency industry has a lot of factors that affect its growth per time, and while Ethereum is just one of many, the hashrate growth adequately coincides with a rise in the price of the digital currency.

On average, Ethereum traded at around $1,650 in the past week, joining to fuel an aggressive dip in the global cryptocurrency market capitalization. After dropping to a weekly low of $1,560.37, the coin is now exchanging hands at $1,710.43, up 2.32% at the time of writing according to CoinMarketCap.

Ethereum’s recovery is a well-backed one, and though there is a bit of correlation with Bitcoin, Ethereum bulls are confident in the positioning of the network as one of the most secure in the world. While awaiting the implementation of the EIP 1559 upgrade as well as the full rollout of the Ethereum 2.0, the future Proof-of-Stake (PoS) network, Ethereum bulls will continue to hang on positive on-chain metrics such as the hashrate growth amongst others to continually resist the bearish dump-off.
