A new proposal is published for Tron that focuses on making TRX a deflationary asset. The TRON’s Super Representatives (SR) will vote for or against proposal 51 in the coming weeks. Fernando Sobeira, the Head of Blockchain Research and Development in Klever, has published the proposal on TRON SR Crypto Chain. He believes proposal 51 will increase the value of TRX and TRX-based tokens.

Proposals are crucial features in blockchains. They help the community and the overall network grow while focusing on improving the user experience. On each blockchain, a specific group of community members can propose upgrades and changes. In most cases, you have to be a holder of the governance token or a particular member to propose.

In Tron, the RS members are eligible to propose upgrades and changes. The new proposal in the RS forum of Tron is named 51 and focuses on increasing the bandwidth and energy fees to make TRX a deflationary asset.

Tron bandwidth is one of the unique features in the blockchain that encourages users for more transactions. It allows users to perform transactions without paying extra gas fees. The recent proposal is focused on this feature and says :

Blockchain proposals describe the needed steps to implement the proposed changes. Proposal 51 says the unit price of Tron bandwidth should increase from the current 40sun to 140sun. Besides, the unit price of energy should increase from 40sun to 140sun. The other change focuses on the upper limit of fee limit that should increase from 1000 TRX to 5000 TRX.

SR members of the Tron network hold discussion meetings to discuss the latest changes in network stats and possible upgrades. Proposal 51 is a result of their last meeting. Because the previous energy price increase has resulted in increasing the amount of frozen TRX in the network, Fernando Sobreira believes that more increases in energy price will result in the same situations.

Proposal 51 aims to increase the freezing rate and total frozen amount in the Tron network. If the proposal receives the required votes, it may reduce TRX in circulation and increase TRX value.

A recent report revealed that Morgan Stanley’s investment wing Counterpoint Global is planning to place a $150 billion bet on Bitcoin.

Although nothing concrete has been finalized, the firm is presenting the proposal to its investors to find out whether they are in line with the investment plan. However, everything is still subject to regulatory approval.

If the investment goes through, it will not the first time the global investment bank is involved in Bitcoin-related investment. It had previously bought an 11% stake in business intelligence firm MicroStrategy, which has invested heavily in Bitcoin. However, this is a bit different because the investment this time is coming from Morgan Stanley.

Morgan Stanley’s analysts have admitted that Bitcoin has the potential to compete strongly against the US dollar. However, they voiced their concerns about the cryptocurrency’s lesser appeal as a currency as more people “hodl” it.

The investment unit has about 20 different funds under asset management, with 25% of those funds gaining more than 100% last year.

Morgan Stanley is not the only traditional institutional bank that has a genuine interest in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. Recently, Visa and JP Morgan confirmed plans to collaborate and maintain crypto payment services. They also agreed to ensure further developments in the crypto industry based on market conditions and the demands of clients.

Counterpoint Global has a reputation of racking up wins in mutual funds, by correctly picking positive-yielding stocks.

The crypto community is seriously following this development, as Morgan Stanley is one of the institutions that will confirm the serious adoption of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

Wall Street has always seen cryptocurrency as very volatile and risky to invest in. But a four-fold increase of Bitcoin has got some of the top mainstream players changing their narratives about the crypto asset.

It has made digital assets more difficult to ignore. After Bitcoin caught the attention of hedge fund tycoons like Paul Tudor Jones and Alan Howard, it has been recognized by mainstay firms like Mastercard. Before that, PayPal entered joined the party by opening its platform for crypto-based payments.

Last week, the most valuable car manufacturing company in the world Tesla announced a $1.5 billion investment in Bitcoin. It also plans to accept crypto payments later this year.  It’s proof that cryptocurrency is gradually winning the battle of mainstream adoption. And that’s what the crypto community is waiting for.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria (SEC) announced on Feb. 11 that it put on hold certain procedures until it coordinated with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The move comes after the CBN issued a Feb. 5 circular regarding the legality of cryptocurrency in Nigeria. As a result, the SEC is halting processes connected to bringing people and products under the SEC Regulatory Incubation Framework.

In its Feb. 11 press release, the SEC insisted that its 2020 ruling regarding cryptocurrencies and their relation to securities remained sound. Furthermore, the SEC recognized the CBN’s concerns over the banking system.  The two bodies will work together in order to ensure order in both the securities and banking realms. As such, the SEC will reopen its sandbox when participants are able to work within the Nigerian banking system.

However, the SEC intends to continue working with fintech companies bringing new technologies to the capital markets.

The SEC declared on Sep. 14 that it recognized all cryptocurrencies as securities. At the time, the CBN did not explain how to regulate the banking side of the issue. Though analysts saw the SEC statement as positive for Nigeria, the effect on banking was largely overlooked by observers.

Nigerians reacted negatively to the news. Members of the crypto community in Nigeria stated that the move would just drive them to the P2P market and avoid banking altogether.

Nigeria is not the only country in Africa tightening crypto regulation. In November, the South Africa Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) announced new regulations. Crypto holdings themselves were not touched. The FSCA required exchanges, brokers and advisors to register with them. 

However, the possibility of further regulation regarding tokens may be in the future for South Africa as well. After the Mirror Trading bitcoin ponzi scheme blew up in January, the FSCA has been calling for tighter regulation of cryptocurrency.

The possibility that Kenya will adopt bitcoin as a currency is a rumor that surfaced last week, though supposed quotes from Central Bank Governor Patrick Njoroge come from broken links. As in Nigeria, digital currencies are popular in part because of constantly depreciating currency. One thing that is sure, though, is that Kenya is among the top bitcoin maximalist countries on the planet. Kenya, along with Nigeria and South Africa, ranks high among bitcoin using nations, both in terms of Google searches and a Chainalysis report.

Miami residents might soon start paying all or part of their taxes, among other fees in Bitcoin (BTC). The city’s pro-crypto mayor, Francis Suarez unveiled this news through a tweet on February 12, noting that the city’s commission held a meeting on Thursday and voted in favour of promoting crypto. Reportedly, the city might also let its workers choose to receive all or part of their salaries in BTC.

Reportedly, the city’s commission approved this resolution 4-1. However, the commission went back to its original wording, seeing as it only agreed to explore the feasibility of these options. As such, the city did not take any action.

Suarez, who has been wooing Silicon Valley investors and leading technology firms for months, told the commission that,

I think we’re on the cusp of seeing a major titanic shift on this. It’s an industry that’s boisterous, vociferous and growing, and this would send the right signal.

Per the resolution, Suarez also wants the city to explore the possibility of investing some of the city’s funds in BTC. However, this is not a clear path, considering Florida statutes are strict on how local governments invest extra funds. At the moment, these rules restrict local government investments to low-volatility investments such as those offered by the US government.

However, Suarez doesn’t consider BTC’s volatility as an issue. According to his original resolution, the city is committed to promoting the emergence of BTC as the coin continues gaining adoption. Nonetheless, some of the city commissioners warned against adopting BTC without an extensive study of the associated risks.

Manolo Reyes, one of the city commissioners, said,

Let’s analyze this before we jump in. Maybe you’re ahead of your time, maybe you’re right, but let’s analyze it.

India’s parliament will discuss a bill that would ban private cryptocurrencies. Meanwhile, the government is examining a potential Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).

Local media outlets in India are reporting that the Indian government plans to ban all private cryptocurrencies. According to a report from Medianama published on Feb. 9, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told the Parliament that cryptocurrencies were not legal tender.

Instead, the government is hoping to shift the focus on a digital rupee if need be.

The move will trouble India’s cryptocurrency scene, which has boomed in 2020, with volumes on top exchanges growing by 500%. Many pro-crypto groups and individuals have lobbied the government to establish legal regulations. However, the government has hinted at little and has typically leaned towards a ban.

According to the official statement, Sitharama told the Parliament that,

“All private cryptocurrencies, except any cryptocurrency issued by the State, be prohibited in India.”

Private currencies include Bitcoin. The bill is currently undergoing a review and will be sent to the Cabinet for discussion and approval.

One of the stated reasons for the prohibition is the fact that cryptocurrencies are used to finance illegal activities. However, what is overlooked by authorities is that cash remains the undisputed means of funding illegal activities. Furthermore, Bitcoin is not anonymous — and companies are building tracing solutions.

Pro-crypto entities cheered, but the new legislation may end their hopes once and for all. The Indian government will turn its attention to blockchain technology itself, both for a CBDC and for other use cases.

Still, India’s own crypto insiders are not entirely pessimistic. Nischal Shetty, CEO and co-founder of WazirX, said that it was good that there was more clarity from the government. He believes that the discussion is still in the early stages, which bodes well.

The government has consistently flip-flopped on its decision about crypto regulations. There is indeed a chance that it may soften its stance, limiting usability and investments. The bill will be the basis for discussion and industry insiders will be able to posit their arguments thereafter.

On the CBDC front, India hopes to be able to test a CBDC in order to keep up with the likes of China. The latter has been conducting several pilots on a CBDC with considerable success.

The Monero community has posted a proposal to add XMR as a payment option on the Tesla website.

After posting a CCS proposal on Feb. 9, the Monero community has raised 890 XMR ($155,000) in a move to add Monero as a payment option for a new Tesla alongside Bitcoin. 

As part of the proposal, the community will strive to get Musk’s attention during a 21-day period starting on Feb. 9. Should Tesla accept the initiative, the Monero community will select three charities to receive brand-new Teslas. The community promised to refund the contributors in case there is no response or engagement from Musk within the twenty-one days of a fully funded proposal.

The effort was supported by a total of just 11 contributors, according to the Monero website.

According to the proposal, Tesla fans could benefit from the XMR payment option due to its unique privacy features compared to public and traceable blockchains like Bitcoin (BTC) or Ether (ETH). The community suggested that some Tesla owners would be comfortable with making their expensive vehicle holdings more private.

“You wouldn’t want your server at a restaurant to know the entire balance in your wallet when you pay would you? Why should your purchase of a car broadcast to the world all of the information that is leaked in a Bitcoin transaction,” the proposal reads. "Plus, the effect of showing up to a party in a brand new Tesla is diminished somewhat if all your friends already knew the moment you bought it because they were able to see the transaction on the Bitcoin blockchain," the proposal stated.

Bitcoin price remained in a bullish zone above the $45,000 support against the US Dollar. BTC is eyeing a fresh rally above the $48,000 and $50,000 resistance levels in the near term.

This past week, bitcoin price made an attempt to test the $50,000 level against the US Dollar. The BTC/USD pair broke the $48,000 resistance, but there was a lack in momentum.

A new all-time high was formed near $48,700 before the price started a downside correction. There was a break below the $47,000 support. The price traded below the 23.6% Fib retracement level of the upward move from the $43,773 swing low to $48,700 high.

Bitcoin price is now trading nicely above the $45,000 level and the 100 simple moving average (4-hours). On the downside, there is a decent support forming near the $46,000 level.

There is also a major bullish trend line forming with support near $46,000 on the 4-hours chart of the BTC/USD pair. The trend line is close to the 50% Fib retracement level of the upward move from the $43,773 swing low to $48,700 high.

On the upside, the $48,000 and $48,500 levels are important hurdles. A clear break above the $48,000 level is likely to increase the chances of a surge above the $50,000 level in the coming sessions.

If bitcoin struggles to clear the $48,000 resistance level, there are chances of a downside correction. The first major support is near the trend line and $46,000.

The next major support is near the $45,000 level. If there is a clear break and close below the $45,000 support, the price could decline 5%-10%. The next major support on the downside is near the $41,000 level.

Technical indicators

4 hours MACD – The MACD for BTC/USD is likely to gain strength in the bullish zone.

4 hours RSI (Relative Strength Index) – The RSI for BTC/USD is still above the 50 level.

Major Support Level – $46,000

Major Resistance Level – $48,000

Russia may soon recognize Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies as property.

The parliament’s lower house, the State Duma, has reportedly passed the first reading of a bill that would tax digital assets.

According to state news agency RIA Novosti, the proposed legislation requires local and foreign residents and organizations within Russia to report crypto transactions that amount to 600,000 rubles, or about $8,130, per year based on the market price of the cryptocurrency.

Offenders who fail to pay or make incomplete tax payments will pay a penalty equivalent to 40% of the amount due.

Those who submit late or inaccurate information will also be fined 10% of the undeclared amount.

According to the proposal, authorities can request the bank statements of accounts used for crypto transactions.

Before a second vote on the proposal, the State Duma’s Committee on Budget and Taxes will make amendments to clarify which transactions will be exempt from VAT and who will be required to submit reports on crypto transactions.

Crypto industry actors in Hong Kong have been trying to push back against a forthcoming law that would restrict legal cryptocurrency trading to professional investors, locking out 93% of the local population from the market.

In comments to the South China Morning Post published on Monday, industry body Global Digital Finance warned that the proposed law would likely push retail traders to embrace unregulated platforms. Global Digital Finance represents cryptocurrency exchanges such as BitMEX, Huobi, Coinbase and OKCoin and has been at the forefront of industry efforts to push back against the forthcoming legislation.

Hong Kong's Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau first published the proposal in November 2020 as part of a bid to toughen Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing measures. The move aligns with efforts to bring domestic regulations in line with recommendations from the Financial Action Task Force, or FATF.

Yet the bureau's proposal exceeds the requirements of the FATF's framework, echoing instead the tough stance toward cryptocurrency trading in mainland China. The chair of Global Digital Finance's advisory council, Malcolm Wright, has pointed out that FATF members Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States all continue to allow retail traders to take part in the cryptocurrency market. 

Throughout January, the government consulted with both members of the public and industry bodies. Now that the consultation period has come to a close, the proposal is expected to be turned into a bill and introduced to Hong Kong's legislative council later in the year. The South China Morning Post's estimate that 93% of the domestic population would be affected by the ban is based on a recent CitiBank survey that found that roughly 7% of the population, or 504,000 individuals, had enough assets to meet the threshold for professional investors.

Speaking to Cointelegraph, the Bitcoin Association's co-founder, Leonhard Weese, summarized the organization's stance:

A high-level inter-ministerial committee has proposed a blanket ban on all digital currencies in India. The committee, however, proposed that the government legalizes a state-issued digital currency, setting the stage for India to join the global CBDC race.

Nirmala Sitharaman, the Minister for Finance in India, revealed the committee’s recommendations while responding to legislators’ questions in a parliamentary session. On whether the government intends to issue strict guidelines on digital currencies, he revealed that it’s leaning towards a total ban.

He stated, “A high-level Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) constituted under the Chairmanship of Secretary (Economic Affairs) to study the issues related to virtual currencies and propose specific actions to be taken in the matter recommended in its report that all private cryptocurrencies, except any virtual currencies issued by state, will be prohibited in India.”

Minister Nirmala revealed that the government was considering the committee’s recommendations. Once it makes its decision, it will reveal its stand to parliament for consequent legislative processes. He further reiterated that the Indian government doesn’t consider Bitcoin and other digital currencies as legal tender.

“It was announced in the Budget Speech for 2018-19 that the government does not consider cryptocurrencies legal tender or coins and will take all measures to eliminate use of these crypto-assets in financing illegitimate activities or as part of the payment system.”

As with several other Indian government officials, the Minister pledged the government’s support for blockchain technology. He believes that blockchain could be the foundation of India’s future digital economy.

The Minister’s message echoes a bill the government recently proposed that seeks to pave the way for a digital rupee. As CoinGeek reported, the bill seeks to ban “private cryptocurrencies.” However, it doesn’t offer details on what a private digital currency is, with some pointing out that Bitcoin’s decentralized nature exempts it from being considered a private digital currency.

Elsewhere, a local report has revealed that the government has already put in motion steps to ban digital currencies. The report by BloombergQuint cited a senior official whose name it withheld. The official revealed that India is modeling its approach on China’s anti-digital currency stance.

However, the ban will be enforced gradually and in phases. This will give digital currency owners the opportunity to sell all their holdings, he told the business outlet.

For Indian digital currency entrepreneurs, all they can do is wait, Unocoin exchange founder Sathvik Vishwanath believes. He told the outlet, “We’re all waiting for details (of the proposed law) to come out to determine our next course of action. If government goes ahead with banning all cryptocurrencies, except the one backed by the state, it will not make sense to continue our business in India. But we’ll have to wait and watch.”

Bitcoin (BTC) Price Prediction – February 11

The Bitcoin price set fresh all-time highs today, with bulls taking full control of the market as they set their sights on $50,000.

Resistance Levels: $53,000, $55,000, $57,400

Support Levels: $40,000, $38,000, $36,000

BTC/USD have been caught within a strong uptrend throughout the past few days and weeks, with sellers unable to gain any profound control over the aggregated market. However, there have been a few intense selloffs, but positive catalysts seem to be lying in wait around every corner to help fuel the uptrend. At the time of writing, BTC/USD is trading up just under 5.46% at its current price of $47,300 after it touches the daily high of $48,690.

The Bitcoin price remains firm above the 9-day and 21-day moving averages as each dip is being aggressively absorbed, which is a positive sign that indicates that bulls are maintaining control over the market. Therefore as long as the market maintains its strength, the first digital asset could be well-positioned to see some massive upside which may cause the coin to hit the potential resistance at $53,000, $55,000, and $57,000.

However, rejection at $48,500 could eventually lead to declines to the critical support below the 9-day moving average at $41,000. In case BTC drops more, then the coin can rely on the long-term support levels at $40,000, $38,000, and $36,000. Looking at the daily chart, the technical indicator RSI (14) signal line is now moving within the overbought region, suggesting more bullish signals.

According to the 4-hour chart, the Bitcoin price touches the daily high at $48,690. However, today’s price move happens to be the most impressive one as it climbs above the long-awaited resistance level of $48,000 with a sharp upsurge. More so, BTC/USD is now maintaining its bull-run above $49,000.

However, as the RSI (14) nosedives below 65-level, BTC may take a downward move. Therefore, the coin may breach below the 9-day and 21-day moving averages and could reach another support at $44,000 and below. Nevertheless, if the bulls find a decent resistance level of around $50,000, the coin may continue bullish movement above the channel at the resistance level of $51,500 and above.

Various companies have been trying to get a Bitcoin ETF approval in the US since the Winklevoss twins’ original attempt, back in 2013. However, the US SEC rejected their proposal then, and it has been rejecting every proposal ever since. Since Canada just decided to approve a proposal that its own regulators received, that makes it the first North American country to get a BTC ETF.

Recently, Canada’s Ontario Securities Commission opted to allow the issuance of a Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) to an investment company called Accelerate Financial. The document was approved only yesterday, February 11th, and it covers a number of different Canadian territories, including Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and Yukon.

The financial firm managed to obtain a receipt for a preliminary prospectus for its Bitcoin ETF on February 2nd. It noted that the fund will offer units in USD and CAD alike and that it would feature a 0.7% management fee. 

According to what is known, the company also applied to list its ABTC (Accelerate Bitcoin ETF) on the Toronto Stock Exchange, which will represent a massive step for Bitcoin and crypto adoption, in Canada, as well as in general.

By creating a Bitcoin ETF, the Canadian firm will be able to provide institutional investors with a truly safe way for them to reach the crypto industry, even if indirectly.

Julian Klymochko, the CEO of Accelerate, said that “Bitcoin has been one of the best-performing asset classes on a 1-year, 3-year, 5-year, and 10-year basis, both absolute and risk-adjusted.” As such, the company is looking forward to providing investors exposure to the coin in a low-cost, easy-to-use ETF.

Synthetix’s latest governance proposal has passed successfully, with the same approving the creation of sTSLA – a synthetic asset that will provide on-chain exposure to Tesla’s shares. The proposal to introduce sTSLA, or SIP110, was put into motion on 10 February, with the proposal passed successfully after a unanimous vote by Synthetix’s The Spartan Council.

The Spartan Council is the Synthetix protocol’s delegated governance council consisting of eight members that vote on behalf of the community.

On the protocol’s Discord channel, Synthetix Founder Kain Warwick revealed that in light of the unanimous vote, the council has directed the pDAO to implement this change in the first available window. In fact, this could be released as early as today, with Warwick going on to say,

“The pDAO has confirmed that as this release requires no downtime this will be implemented today.”

Warwick also reassured the community that more details will be made available soon as the release is currently being coordinated.

Synthetix uses Chainlink’s decentralized price feeds to track the price of $TSLA/USD. Chainlink’s TSLA/USD price feeds went live on 9 February on the Ethereum mainnet.

Chainlink reportedly created this price feed as a direct result of user demand from Synthetix. However, the same feeds can be utilized by other DeFi protocols that find a use for it as well.

For instance, Mirror Protocol recently launched its own synthetic version of Tesla called mTSLA. mTSLA was offered through an ‘Initial Twitter Offering’ (ITO) through the Mask Network on Twitter. Unlike sTSLA, mTSLA utilizes Band Protocol as its oracle solution for its TSLA/USD price feeds.

This synthetic asset is expected to see some traction in the following days given Tesla’s recent $1.5 billion Bitcoin purchase. This was a sentiment shared by many in the community, with one user going on to state,

“I think this is a lot bigger than people immediately think it is.”
